Beginnings...

This blog is basically going to end up as my half-arsed attempt at chronicling the next six years. I will be starting at the Illawarra Senior College in Port Kembla at the end of January 2006, taking my final exams in October and November of 2007 (that's five weeks of exams - I'm not looking forward to it), and then - the Goddess willing, of course - I'll be off to England for three years (October 2008 until June 2011) to study for a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (hopefully with Honours) with a minor in Creative Writing. I have one of the worst long-term memories known to humankind (in my opinion, anyway), so keeping a journal (along with the obligatory photographs) is going to be the only way I'm going to be able to remember any of it.

Here's the big question. If I've already finished school (which I did in 2002, almost three years ago), why the fuck would I want to go through Year 11 and Year 12 again? The reason for this is that when I originally did the Higher School Certificate, my UAI (final rank, for anyone not 'in the know') was reported to me as being 'less than 30.00'. Hence, I don't know my exact UAI. To even be considered for entry into a British university to take English, I need an A-level grade of between 120 and 180 - the rough UAI equivalent is 50.6 to 68.9. I'm aiming for a UAI of 85 at least. I'm smart enough, I could probably do it in my sleep! *chuckles* The subjects I plan to study are Advanced English, General Mathematics, Senior Science, Legal Studies, Drama and PD/H/PE, though that may or may not end up changing over the course of the next two months.

But I have an ulterior motive for wanting to keep track of my university exploits. I plan to write a semi-autobiographical novel after my graduation, loosely based on my time at university - I already have a title, and I'm slowly working out my characters and setting. Right now I'm planning to call it One Way Ticket, but of course that's only a working title.

I should warn everyone reading this that until I start at ISC, I won't be updating this blog very often. Maybe once every couple of weeks or so, if that. Anyone who has a LiveJournal, and who wants to be regularly updated on my life, is more than welcome to add my journal to their friends lists - my journal can be found here. My journal is friends only, so leave a comment and I will more than likely add you back.
